Something I'm Reading:
I’m reading Fit for Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond on recommendation from Jesse Itzler back when he was on the BP Podcast. The main theme is to only eat fruit before noon and simplify your meals so digestion is easier on your body leaving you with more energy for everything else. Interesting read!
Also - last week, I asked you to share some book recommendations with me. Had lots of great recommendations from you all so I’ll share a few of them below:
So Good They Can’t Ignore You by Cal Newport - recommended by Brian Moore
Raising Private Capital by Matt Faircloth - recommended by Daniel Leathers
7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey - recommended by Michael
Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr Joe Dispenza - recommended by Myres McDougal
The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson - recommended by Orly Howard
Something I Teach:
Every year, Heather and I schedule a time to set goals together as a couple. Imagine running a business and never discussing company goals, objectives, and next steps with your business partner. That business would likely lack clear direction and would consistently fall short of their goals (if they even knows what those goals are). That’s exactly what so many of us do with our significant other. Goal setting and clear communication is so important for growth in your relationship, personal life, finances, business etc even if you’re significant other isn’t a “goal setting person.” Make it a fun, intentional getaway with your partner and a time you both look forward to! Check out the video above - we recorded this last year but it’s a great overview of what we do.
Something I Photographed:
Each week I share a photo I snapped in the previous week. Sometimes serious. Sometimes random and funny. Maybe a selfie once in a while. Just because.
My dinner last night :) Thanks Kiawe Outdoor!
Something I'm Excited About:
Christmas with my kids is always magical, even in Hawaii! I love seeing their excitement build up :)
Something I Can Answer:
Each week, I'll be answering one question from someone on my BehindTheBeard textletter! Want your question answered? Submit it by simply replying to this text!
Question: “Did you ever feel hopeless in the beginning trying to shift from a regular day job to investing? How did stay positive/move forward when your job was sucking the life out of you?” - Mike
I remember when I was working at a bank and everyday I would stare at the clock until it was 5pm and I could go home. It was sucking the life out of me so I get it! How’d I stay positive? First, I spent my weekends and evenings building my rental portfolio, knowing that it would only take a few years and I could get out of my job. It was the light at the end of the tunnel and pushed me to keep going.
Secondly, you don’t have to stick through a life sucking job until you can go out and invest. The bank knew I was handy and, one day, they asked me to paint the break room. After painting, I realized that that was the best day of work ever. I gave my notice later that day and ended up going and being a contractor for a while. It’s better to go find a career you can get some kind fulfillment from while you work on building your real estate portfolio (even if it means less pay). It doesn’t matter if your making $15 an hour or $30 an hour, you can build a portfolio earning both so may as well enjoy your work while you do it!
