Something I'm Reading:

Just read “The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive” by Patrick Lencioni and it had some great advice on what it takes to lead a business.

Something I Teach:

When I was in seventh grade, someone in a giant gorilla costume walked into my fourth period class, walked right over to me, grab my pencil, threw it, and, after making a brief ruckus, left. I found out later it was my dad creating a magical memory I’ll never forget. I thought of this story today, as my wife put together not just one but two extremely fancy Valentines Day tea parties for Rosie and her friends.  She baked and shopped and prepped and prepared and decorated for days, all for a few hours of fun for some kids.

Now, some people might think this was excessive. And of course it was. However, like the gorilla costume, Rosie will likely remember this for the rest of her life. And this is the point I wanted to make: if you’re a parent, be intentional about creating magical moments for your kids. If you’re not a parent, be intentional to make a magical moments for your significant other. If you’re single, be intentional about making magical moments for yourself.  These moments matter, and they don’t happen on accident.  When I look back on the last 36 years of my life, a handful of moments really stand out as beautiful and memorable - and nearly all of them happened because someone was intentional about creating a magical moment.  So how can you create a magical moment for your family this week?

Something I Photographed:

Each week I share a photo I snapped in the previous week. Sometimes serious. Sometimes random and funny. Maybe a selfie once in a while. Just because.

The tea party I mentioned above and, of course, Heather who organized the party :)

Something I Can Answer:

Each week, I'll be answering one question from someone on my BehindTheBeard textletter! Want your question answered? Submit it by simply replying to this text!

Question: “How’s your transition going and what do you miss the most?”

It’s awesome being able to spend a lot more time with the kids. The podcast wasn’t taking up much of my time before so I haven’t gained that much time back. But it is a noticeable increase which I’ve mainly been filling with more Jiu Jitsu. However, I’m taking a several month long road trip around the country which I wouldn’t have been able to do before!

What do I miss the most? Definitely talking with incredible, high level investors and asking them questions because it helped me as much as it helped anyone else.

Your Friend,

P.S. Have a question you want answered by me? Reply to this text with your question - I pick one to answer each week in Behind the Beard and do my best to reply to others directly via text.
