Something I'm Reading:
I’m reading a book called Winning the War in your mind by Craig Groeschel. It’s written by a Christian pastor and is a great book on overcoming self-doubt, negative thinking, and similar destructive habits. Good stuff.
Something I Teach
Last week I mentioned the importance of setting goals, having a process, and measuring your results. This also applies towards relationships. Yesterday, I did a call in the JDC Mindset Academy where I talked for an hour about 15 tips that have helped me in my marriage with Heather over the past 15 years. I actually track all lead measures that make our marriage stronger - like date nights, quality time together, one on one connection time, books I’m reading on relationships etc. By tracking the lead measures that result in a healthier marriage, a better marriage naturally occurs. I encourage you to do the same. And, if you’re not married yet, track the lead measures of other relationships that are important to you - even if that’s just with yourself (like working out, books you read etc).
Something I Photographed:
Each week I share a photo I snapped in the previous week. Sometimes serious. Sometimes random and funny. Maybe a selfie once in a while. Just because.
Court-side seats, thanks to my friend Aaron from the Real Estate Rockstars Podcast.
Something I'm Excited About:
We just closed Fund 6 and it was fully subscribed in just over one week! In fact, it was 90% subscribed before we even launched it to the general public. The demand is insane!
Also - Open Door Capital is currently hiring, so come join in on the action! We have 6 open positions and applications will be closing at the end of this week. Check it out here.
Something I Can Answer:
Every week, I answer a question texted in by you! Reply to this text with your question to be featured in a future Behind the Beard.
Question: “Do you have any tips, tricks, or advice for raising money?”
Remember that you are not asking for a favor - you are offering an opportunity. Shift your mindset.
Have a phenomenal deal that gives the investor a good return.
Keep it simple.
Design matters when pitching a deal to somebody. Ensure your deck/presentation is well designed and quality.
Know your audience. Be sure you are asking the right people!
How you do anything is how you’ll do everything. That applies to raising money. This applies to how you present yourself on social media, the design of the pitch, and your integrity and character in the real world.
Dig your well before you’re thirsty. Start fostering relationships now and be in regular communication with people who may invest with you down the road.
If you do’t currently have a deal you’re raising money for, you can put together a sample deal. Show people the type of deal you’re looking to do and the potential structure for it. Then ask if they’d be interested in a similar opportunity. You can also ask the question, “Do you know anybody who would be interested in investing in something like this?”. This gives the people the opportunity to say that they might be interested but also gives them the opportunity to share it with their network. Double win!
Your Friend,
