Something I'm Reading:

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. I’ve actually been “reading” to it for the past year or so but typically only listen to the audiobook while on road trips. Heather and I have been road tripping down the west coast and are about a third of the way through it now!

Something I've Learned:

Alexander Hamilton was a prolific writer, lawyer, politician, member of several different societies, Founding Father and clearly a busy and important guy. But in the book Alexander Hamilton, I learned that despite all those things, his children still said he was a great father and very present. He would come home, drop everything, leave work behind him, and spend time with his kids. This is great inspiration and shows that you can still be successful and impactful while being a good father.

Something I've Purchased:

I purchased 2 nights at a “glamping” resort near Yosemite and I’m staying in an Airstream trailer…and it still costs as much as staying at a resort in Maui! But it is amazing and 100% worth it. I booked it through AutoCamp.com and would highly recommend it. Such a cool experience and a good way to switch it up.

Something I Photographed:

Each week I share a photo I snapped in the previous week. Sometimes serious. Sometimes random and funny. Maybe a selfie once in a while. Just because.

Our “glamping” campsite and Airstream trailer. Clearly we’re roughing it 😉

Something I'm Excited About:

Tomorrow I’m headed to Yosemite and can’t wait! I’ve never been there before so really looking forward to it. Keep an eye on my Instagram for some cool pics from the trip. And thanks for all the Yosemite recommendations you texted in last week 🤘

Something I Can Answer

Question:  “Knowing what you know now, would you invest in mobile homes, single family or commercial (if you were just getting started)?” -Michael

I’m a big believer in picking a niche and strategy that checks 3 boxes:

  1. It works in your area or you can find an area where it does work

  2. It aligns with your goals

  3. It sparks a fire inside you

I honestly believe single family works just fine and you can make millions from it. You can make millions from multifamily. Millions from commercial. It’s more important that you just pick something and run with it rather than trying to find the “perfect” path.

So what would I do now if I were starting over? I would probably still do mobile home parks because they still excite me and they check those boxes for me. I also enjoy finding a unique approach to strategies or niches. For example, at Open Door Capital, we buy mobile home parks but differentiate ourselves by becoming really good at infilling those parks.
