Something I'm Reading:

I’m reading Effortless by Greg McKeown. It addresses burnout and how to work and be successful without overworking and overdoing things - something which us entrepreneurs tend to struggle with :)

Something I've Learned:

I’m learning how important rewards are in my head. For example, if I have a really good food day and don’t eat any “unplanned indulgences'' (the term popularized by the MyBodyTutor program I am a part of), the next day I will allow myself to buy a latte from my favorite coffee shop. If I don’t do a good job, I don’t get one. Just that little reward has made it way easier for me to stay on track with healthy eating. Combine that with having a food coach from MyBodyTutor and it’s amazing. So reward yourself for those little wins!

Something I've Purchased:

I purchased a jiu-jitsu mat from Amazon for my garage. It took a long time to get to Maui (honestly I wasn't even sure if it was gonna make it) but it finally delivered the other day.

Something I Photographed:

Each week I share a photo I snapped in the previous week. Sometimes serious. Sometimes random and funny. Maybe a selfie once in a while. Just because.

Just the original BiggerPockets duo goofing around again!

Something I'm Excited About:

Honestly, there is a lot I’m excited about right now. My buddy Tarl Yarber and I are hosting a Maui Masterclass in August and applications just opened up. The Maui Mastermind literally changed my business (and led to Open Door Capital) so I’m pumped for this!

Secondly, Open Door Capital just launched our first apartment offering this week (more info coming on Friday if you haven’t been able to invest yet). This single deal is bigger than my Vivid Vision goal from several years ago of owning $50M in real estate. That shows the power of goals!

Something I Can Answer

Each week, I'll be answering one question from someone on my BehindTheBeard Text List! Want your question answered? Submit it by simply replying to this text!

Question:  “How do you retain and remember key takeaways from all of the books you read? Do you have a system to summarize and incorporate the ideas into your life?” - Justin

Whenever I’m reading, I look for one lesson or idea which I can takeaway and apply to my life that day. I am intentional with immediately taking action and I break it down into daily, bite size pieces. For you, maybe take one, high impact lesson and apply it for one week or whatever is manageable and actionable for you. But if you do this every time you read, it trains your brain to think differently and the actions you do take compound overtime. Also, I encourage you to jot down those lessons and ideas in your phone or on a notepad and hold yourself accountable to them throughout the day or week.
