Something I'm Reading:

Just started reading (or listening to I should say) Billy Summers by Stephen King. I’m about an hour into the long audio book! So far so good but I’ll let ya know how I like it as I get a bit more into it.

Something I Teach:

At the Maui Masterclass last week, Tarl Yarber (my co-host at the Masterclass) had us go through this really helpful practice:

Write down every single solitary task you do at your business. Everything. The small, medium, and large tasks or roles that you play on a daily basis. This could be emails, talking to your realtor, deal analysis, phone calls etc. You get the idea! Put these tasks into a detailed list.

Now go through and circle every task that you love to do. These are the things that fire you up and what you’d do even if you never got paid a dime for it. Next, put a star next to any tasks that only you can do. Last, put a box around tasks that you are very, very good at. Anything on this list without a mark (circle, star, box etc) should be a task that you eventually outsource and build a system around. There are very few tasks that you as a business owner should be doing.

(P.S. We have 3 spots left for September’s Maui Masterclass so check out this link if you’re interested in attending)

Something Cool I Own:

My real estate investor and agent friend, Darren Sager, gave me a Roccbox a while ago and I use it all the time. It’s a gas powered pizza oven for making homemade oven-fired pizzas. I always pull this out when we have friends or guests over. Cooks pizza quick, tastes great, and it’s fun to use (and my kids love it)!

Something I Photographed:

Each week I share a photo I snapped in the previous week. Sometimes serious. Sometimes random and funny. Maybe a selfie once in a while. Just because.

Something I'm Excited About:

Month in Maui is going to have a booth at BPCon this year with some cool swag and giveaways. If ya don’t know what Month in Maui is, it’s my new luxury travel business. For one flat price, you get luxury housing, your own vehicle, a personal concierge and several activities included for a month long stay in Maui. If you’ll be at BPCon, be sure to say hi and get some free stuff! We can answer any questions, give you more info, and help you book a month if you’re interested.

Something I Can Answer:

Each week, I'll be answering one question from someone on my BehindTheBeard Text List! Want your question answered? Submit it by simply replying to this text!

Question:  “What mindset shift has had the biggest impact on your business?” -Matt B

The biggest mindset shift I had was recognizing that every task I do has a dollar per hour attached to it. So mowing your lawn is $15 an hour. Looking at properties may be $100 an hour. Negotiating a big real estate deal may be $1,000 an hour. Doing a podcast or webinar may be $10,000 an hour. That shift got me asking myself if I am doing the highest and best use task with my time and how I can bring in other people to do the things that they are best at. This idea goes hand in hand with the exercise I mentioned in the “Something I Teach” section. A great book I recommend for learning more about this is 80/20 Sales and Marketing by Perry Marshall.
